baby is here...diapers are leaking...

LO came a bit early but is around 6.5lbs  Most of the diapers are BG XS and prefolds and covers (cotton babies) it seems like everything leaks, DD has SKINNY legs so that seems to be where they leak with the BG  and I think the prefold issue is just a learning curve. So I guess my question is could the BG just be to big for her? She is wearing preemie clothes if that helps.

Also any suggestions for how to get a good fit and keep her from leaking in the prefolds/covers?

Yes, it's definitely possible that the BGs are too big.  I don't know what size they usually start fitting well.  Do you have enough prefolds to CD full-time?  Those are pretty adjustable, so if you have enough I'd suggest trying those.  If the fold you're using isn't working, you can always try another one (popular folds are the angel wing, the newspaper fold and the bikini twist: see here for descriptions).

Some ppl have trouble with the BG fit.  You could try another brand or like PP said, try some different folds with PF and try the BG when LO gains a little weight.

I use prefolds and covers (thirsties). With these I have found that you HAVE to make sure all of the pf is tucked in and that the tag, if you have one in your brand, is between the pf and cover and not tucked between the baby's back and pf. We had many leaks with these mistakes. If all that is taken care of, there are no leaks for us.

I really think the BG will fit better when she gets a little more weight to her, we are just having to pull them so tight and then the legs seem to just have gaps... I'll give the prefolds another try or two today

/my DS was 6.5 lbs at birth. I waited until his cord fell off to use the bgs and they fit great.  He was around 6 lbs 10 ozs at that point.

She needs a little more weight to get to 6 lbs 10 oz but she is probably getting closer.
