has anyone fainted?

I get dizzy spells a lot and I already know to sit down when I get them. If I'm cooking on the stove for a while, they get bad because of the heat. Yesterday I decided to be stubborn and wanted to finishing cooking my lunch before I went and sat down and ended up on the floor. I was in the corner of the kitchen and kind of just slid down the wall but I now have a nice bruise on my hip to remind me to not be so stubborn!

My sister and cousin fainted a few times while they were pregnant. Apparently these fun dizzy spells run in the family and we're all too stubborn to sit down when we should too.

Anyone else have this too?

Re: has anyone fainted?

  • i have naturally low blood pressure, so i get dizzy a lot, but it can be an issue if i'm not eating right or i'm sleepy or something. I'm also low on iron naturally. Make sure you're getting enough of the right vitamins and nutrients and stuff. Fainting and being dizzy definitely isn't a good thing. Call your doc to make sure everything is ok

  • I almost fainted in my voice lessons a few weeks ago. It was very hot that day, I was wearing heels and probably locking my knees, and I guess not breathing properly. I had to stop mid exercise and grab the nearest chair. I felt bad for my poor voice teacher- I'm sure the last thing she wants in a pregnant lady passing out on her!

  • I already told my OB that I regularly get dizzy spells and that a few of them were strong enough to make me black out and she just said okay and that it happens for some people. And hypoglycemia runs in my family, my mom and sister have it really bad and have fainted on several occasions and my brother has it mildly. I never had any issues but I've always been an all day eater/snacker.

  • Like the other ppl said, I sometimes get dizzy. I HAVE fainted before but not since I've been pregnant. You said you were making food when this happened.... is it possible you just needed to eat? Not eating on a regular basis can sometimes make me sick/dizzy. I'd recommend bread. If you've got to the point you feel sick then you might get sick while eating. Bread usually stays down....

  • I get dizzy spells normally  and have fainted, but I did faint over the summer while pregnant.  I have low bp, but at the time was also extremely hot, dehydrated, and hungry.  The OB just told me be careful of my temperature and eat every two hours (and of course, drink).

  • I fainted a couple weeks go.  I have always had low blood pressure and faint during medical procedures but other than that had never fainted at home or just because I was dizzy.  I had gone on a run and came back to horribe stomach cramps and nausea.  It felt like food poisoning and then when I got dizzy I decided to get up from the bathroom and lay down in bed.  I proceeded to call DH for help but not before standing and then fainting and banging my head on the tub.  I ended up in the ER with CT scans and stitches and they said I was really dehydrated.  Be careful!  Listen to your body, I learned the hard way.
