Babies: 6 - 9 Months

We shouldn't be using the swing anymore, right?

I'm nervous to stop using it since she will nap for an hour or two in it (we cosleep, so she never sleeps alone except in the swing.)

I strap her in but she's getting strong enough to sit up in it and looks to be trying to figure out how to climb out.

Anyone transition a swing-sleeper to a PNP-sleeper successfully?

  • I would stop. I know our pedi gave me the side eye at the four month appt that she was still in the RNP. We transitioned the very next weekend and never looked back.

  • DD sleeps in her crib for the most part... sometimes in bed with us now, but we still use the swing and she's 7.5 months. And she's been sitting upright for quite awhile now. She's on the small side (15lbs at 7 months) so she still has a long way weight wise and I figure until she's unhappy in it, I'll keep using it. USually it's just for a short nap here and there, but if it works, I would continue using it once and a while.

RnP does not = swing IMO. I'd be much more concerned about the RnP than the swing.

How high is your swing?  Ours was one of those portable ones so LO would have only fallen a few inches.

It's probably been ok to use it up until now. If she's trying to get out though you probably ought to transition her out of it.

  • We stopped the swing for naps a handful of months ago, but we keep it in our room. DD gets frequent colds and will only sleep at night in the swing. She is up all night when I tried her in her crib, so she'll be there til she's not stuffy anymore.

She doesn't try to climb out though.

There was a post on here a few weeks ago about someone's LO who climbed out of the swing and was hanging from it (fortunately LO was fine).  If your LO is trying to get out of the swing, then they have 100% outgrown it.
