You will be able to see the next day. I went back for a follow up the next day and they said I could easily pass a DMV vision test. You will however be very uncomfortable, you should take at least the next day off. I had mine on a Thursday evening and took Friday off and I was good to go by Monday. I had a lot of eye dryness for awhile but I just carried saline drops around with me. I had it almost 10 years ago now and it's still one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

I want to get LASIK so bad, but I'm totally scared of it. I'm afraid I'll go from the annoyance of contacts/glasses to being totally blind, even though I don't think I've ever heard of any major complications.

Were you able to drive yourself to the followup appointment?

I think they said not to, but I easily could have, my vision went from 20/600 the night before to 20/40 by that appointment about 18 hours later and finally settled in around 20/30 or 20/35 and it's still there 10 years later.

It's totally not scary and takes like 10 minutes, they'll even give you Valium if you're freaked.

DH did it and I had to pick him up after, but the next day he was all good to drive and everything. I want to get it done, but my eyesight is worse than his and I dont want to take a day off work and go for exam and find out I am not a good candidate. It makes me feel all rejected and stuff.

Mine was AWFUL, I was legally blind I think. I had a restriction for contacts on my license I had to get removed, if it's just bad vision and no astigmatism or anything else wrong with your actual eyes, you should be a candidate.

Had it a few months ago. LOVE IT. You for sure will be able to see the next day. I had lasik on friday at 10am, stopped for lunch with my MIL after, picked up scrips (Which by the way, I have unopened would give you considering the samples doc gave were more then enough and my ins didn't cover so I paid over $250 for antibiodic's that I'll never use!) Anyway, got home, took a nap and could see by the time I woke up. The next day was like nothing happen.
My optometrist said I was a good candidate and I'm going for the consultation in a couple of weeks. I'm REALLY nervous and like krate24 said, am totally scared about the 1 in a million chance that something might go wrong...
DH doesn't need glasses, lucky bastard, so he doesn't understand the frustration of not being able to see. He thinks I should wait until DD is older before I go.

I was told to drive to my one day follow up and was totally fine. I understand the 1 in a million freak out of what could happen... But seriously, it's SO worth it. waking up and not having to put my glasses on to see the time. PRICELESS! just do what they tell you. Totally suck it up and be lazy the first day. Don't go out and garden or have any chance of getting something like dirt in your eyes. You'll do GREAT!
I had it done 5 years ago and it was the best money I ever spent!! I had no issues other than dry eye which is very common. After the appt I went home and took a nap and woke up and could just about see perfectly and the next morning it was crystal clear.
I was able to drive to my follow up appts no problem. I also had HORRIBLE vision and astigmatism (both eyes)

My DH also doesn't need glasses, but he's like the opposite. I'm terrified to get the surgery, but he thinks it should be no big deal and I should just get it done, because he thinks glasses/contacts would be the worst thing ever.
Ooops! I''m really glad you asked this question.. I've been wearing my glasses (instead of my contacts) for 2 weeks now, and next Wed is my consultation... I'm nervous/excited at the same time to find out whether I can get it done. If so, I'm doing it!!!! I have super bad eyesight, and have had to wear glasses since 4th grade.

Me too! And I'm so sick of not being able to find my glasses at night (I have frame-less which makes it almost impossible to see in the dark). Please keep me posted about how your consult goes!
I had it done about 2 years ago, and I agree with it being the best money I ever spent. I have had horrible vision since the 3rd grade. I also had astigmatism in my left eye, and I was very nearly legally blind in both eyes.
I was able to drive myself to my follow up appointment the next day. I took a nap when I got home from the procedure and could see fine by the time I woke up. I had dryness for about a year, but other than that, no complications.
The big thing I was scared of was being able to blink during the procedure. But the doc said you can still blink and it feels like you're blinking, but you won't actually blink. Does that make sense? Also, the whole thing took like 5 minutes.
Yup! No pain whatsoever. Even the day of, the only uncomfortableness was when I moved my eyeball every now and then it felt like I had a scratch in my eye. But really nothing.
You can see immediately. You can't drive that day because your vision is kind of weird and your eyes are really watery. It's best to just take some benadryl and sleep. I got mine after work around 4 or 5. I went home and took a 2 hour nap. When I woke up I could see perfectly and I went to a friend's house and played Wii till all hours. My eyes were a little sore for like a day and they water easily for a few days, but you can see perfectly. You have to keep lots of drops in them because they will dry out easily for the first month.
If I could do it over I would have gotten it years before. It was totally worth every penny and in the 4 years since I got it I probably would have spent more than the surgery on glasses, contacts, and vision checks. I have had zero issues since and I have 20/15 vision. My friends say I have bionic eyes. It's awesome!
