I had previously posted this on the ADOPTION Board... .....
SOOO I just go a call our Expectant mother and she has had a mild case of Epilepsy since the age of 5. Her seizures usually are not that bad. But Last night,.. she said that it lasted about 10 minutes.. and she was shaking in her bed. She went to the ER and they got her comfortable and sent her to the OB Floor where she had a few mild Contractions. She was there until 10 this morning. They wanted to observe her overnight (in which I totally Understand) Mind you she is only 28 weeks. I have read some things on Epilepsy But I feel soo helpless. She will not take medications while she is pregnant because of the side affects. She calls her seizures Petit Absentminded seizures?
I guess in the back of my mind I am thinking... What if her seizures continue to worsen and what If She were to deliver our DD?
I am just going to Keep on Praying and try to be faithful in things!!!
Re: Expectant BM - Mild Seizures - only 29 wks along
I'm sorry you are going through this. All I can say is that she should be taking some sort of preventative medication. It is a risk v benefit discussion. Standard of care in this situation is to lower meds to one and lower AEDs to lowest dose. I cannot imagine an OB not having this discussion with her.
At any rate, I hope she decides to take something, and that your LO will be born w/o health issues. Many T & P's for a happy and healthy baby
