Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Diaper Cake?

I think they are fun to do. I have to go to a shower in a couple weeks, was thinking about doing one but I kind of think they are a waste of time.

Made one for SIL who had her baby 5 months before us. When she came to meet Jay she brought all the diapers that were to small for her LO. Just so happens I think all the diapers from the diaper cake were there.

Re: Diaper Cake?

  • I voted yes. But, I like diaper cakes.

I went to a shower for DH's cousin a couple weeks ago and I made a diaper cake for her. I debated on making it for a while but decided to. She loved it! So I was glad I did it.

Plus, I think they have a lot of useful stuff in them (usually)

I don't see anything wrong with doing one- just don't use all NB size.

This. My friend makes other diaper creations like a diaper trike (google some images of that, there are some cute ones). So maybe you can do something that's not a cake if you want to be more original, too.

  • Do you know for sure that they aren't doing CDs?

  • I had a bunch of smaller diaper cakes at my shower with one big one on the main gift table but they were all different sizes. Now that I think about it, I still have a bunch of size 4s left that LO doesn't even fit into yet!

Yes, I know for sure they are using DD.

  • I made one for my SIL's youngest boy to give as her shower gift. I used over 300 diapers ranging from nb-3, wash cloths, took generic baby socks and folded them into roses, cute boy socks, bottles, wipes, first aid kit, rubber ducks and frogs (frogs were the theme), lotion, rattles, carseat handle vibrating toys, teething blankets, clothes, bibs, found a sippy cup with the baby's name on it, etc. I wrapped receiving blankets around the tiers to look like fondant.

It was 7 tiers tall, I had my Dad cut a 56 in diameter piece of plywood in a circle. I covered the wood in a crib sheet to make it look like a cake tray. I assemebled it with wooden dowel rods to make it sturdy. I was really proud of it.

The pregnant ladies at the shower LOVED it. I was hurt when I uncovered it for my SIL and she laughed and put her head down saying "Wow, it's so cluttered." Really SIL? That gift alone cost me over $300 to make. (Then add the shower costs too).

If I was asked to do another I'd do it again. I enjoyed making it.

This.  I redecorated and regifted a diaper cake that was all NB because my DS was never even in that size.

  • I loved my diaper cake. It was all NB diapers and we used them all... but I understand the comments that suggest other sizes.

  • I used every single diaper from my cake. I loved mine. The person who got the cake just needs to be wise enough to look through all of the sizes on the cake and get them ready to use. I took mine a part within two weeks of LO being born.

  • I wouldn't have minded getting multiple diaper cakes, because they're so useful!!

Usually, however, I think they don't look good... To be honest.
But I have seen some gorgeous ones that look like very much thought went into making them.

Then there are also issues that may arise like the baby having too sensitive skin for the brand of diapers you spent money to buy.
And if it's decorated with pacifiers, what if they decide to avoid pacifiers? There's a little more money wasted...

But, like I said, I'd have gladly taken twelve of them :)
