My son just started this in the last week or two. He's 4 1/2 months old now. One day he just reached for it, put it in his mouth and has been holding it on his own ever since. It was crazy! Enjoy it!
DS goes through periods where he'll put his hands around it, but he can't support the weight. Sometimes I prop it up with a towel for him, but it's only good for a minute or two. He likes to control taking it in and out of his mouth, which is so cute.
I know and few people with older babies who have said that they'll hold their sippy cups, but not the bottles? I think it's an association thing in that case.
I have one baby who always holds the bottle with me but I don't let him hold it himself yet. The other sort of grabs and slaps at the bottle but doesn't seem interested in holding it. I'm in no hurry, though.
DD is starting to hold the bottle but loses interest after a little bit. At the sitter's house she does hold the bottle a lot more, but then again she knows I will do it for her. I also noticed that if she is really hungry she will hold the bottle.
My daughter started trying to hold it herself at 4 months. She can hold it but she is definitely not steady with it so I have to keep a hand on it. They do the cutest things!

My DD will grab the bottle and put it in her mouth, and she's able to hold it there but she isn't able to hold it up to get anything out. 8oz bottles with 5oz of formula is way to heavy for her little self.

DS does this too. Very cute!
