Transitioning to crib at 4 mos. proving difficult

Hi all,

I'm looking for some insight on the best way to rendition my 4 month old daughter to the crib. She has had some really bad reflux and was on a few medications before things finally settled down. To keep her elevated at a 30 degree angle we got her a rock 'n play sleeper and that worked well for us. She loved it and started sleeping through the night.

She is now growing out of the cot. Any attempt to switch her cover to the crib has been really unsuccessful. She does not respond well at all. I tried the ferber method(which I wasn't sure about) once but she got so upset she cried so hard she vomited and it took 2 hours to get her to stop screaming.

Anybody successfully transitioned at this stage with better results?

  • I had a similar situation with my daughter who has reflux. She was fine in her swing, on me or my husband, or in her bassinet. The one night after we fed her, we just kept her upright for about 30 minutes to let her food settle, then made sure she was sound asleep and put her in her crib. Since then she has not had a problem sleeping there at night. Naps during the day are a different story though!

I also did a bit of a modified Ferber to get her to fall asleep on her own instead of on us. it was essentially 'fuss it out' as she didn't really cry, she just yelled a little, wiggled alot, then fell asleep. One night she did really start screaming so I went in, picked her up to calm her and put her back down. The screaming started again so I said if she hasn't stopped in 5 minutes I will go get her....literally at the 6 minute mark she conked out and has fallen asleep on her own, with no crying ever since. She was 11 weeks when we did it as I was returning to work at 12 weeks. To ward off any comments, I know it technically isn't supposed to be done until 4 months but my pediatrician said go for it, it won't do any harm to her and will be harder for me than it will be for her.
