XP: DS will not stop crying

Please help! My son started whining about 8 o'clock last night and would only stop if we held him. He did it all night long (literally) and my MIL just called and said he is still doing it. He isn't really drinking any bottles either. He doesn't have a fever and he is not vomiting. I put in a call with his pedi and am waiting for him to call back. In the meantime, I wanted to see if any of you experienced this before. I am thinking he has an ear infection, but he doesn't seem to be crying in pain, and he isn't pulling on his ears. Any experiences that you could share would be great.

  • This happen to DD but not for as long and she ended up just having heart burn but my friends DS did this and he ended up having a urinary tract infection. But you said no fever so I don't really know. I am so sorry. Maybe his belly hurts. Gosh wish I could help more. image

  • When we had an ear infection, L didn't pull on her ears at first, it took a few days for that.  I took her on walks outside which calmed her down instantly.  Try to keep him busy and see if that helps distract him enough for you to wait to hear from your pedi.

  • When DS has had this it was either an ear infection or he would eventually puke.  Hope he feels better!

  • Could be an ear infection or a sore throat...DS1 would get ear infections all the time and no fever and DS2 is just getting over a sore throat and cold and was like that

  • J did the same exact thing 4 weeks ago. He wouldn't sleep and when I tried to nurse him he would scream and cry (very unusual for him). He wouldn't stop crying unless we held him and even then he whined a little. He never tugged at his ears, but he did have a fever. He ended up having an ear infection. I have a feeling the pedi will want to see him as they usually want to examine them anytime they are exhibiting unusual behavior.

I hope your little guy feels better.

  • DD was fussy, wanted to be held and screamed the night through.  No fever, but she had an ear infection.  Poor baby, hope he feels better soon.
  • Just got home from Urgent Care.  You ladies were right, he has an ear infection. Now he is on Azithromycin for the next 5 days. I hope this passes soon, because he seems so miserable.
