Yes! You dentist would tell you after every meal/bottle/snack but that gets a little excessive. I brush her gums (no teeth yet) with a baby toothbrush every night during bath time/bedtime routine. It gets her used to having her mouth inspected. And- starts good habbits for her. No toothpaste, just water.
Our pedi told us to either brush them with a baby toothbrush or with a damp washcloth twice a day and after any nighttime feedings. DS chews on stuff ALL day long (blankets, washcloths, his clothes and bibs, etc) so I haven't really been too worried about it at this point.
EDIT: I agree with PP, though, in that it's probably better to start now (not only for the sake of LO's teeth), but also to start getting them used to it and create a good habit. I guess that means I better get on it, too.
We do with a baby tooth brush. I actually let her chew on it as well so she gets the idea of it in her mouth on her terms. While we brush she watches her self chew her brush in the mirro.
