Ok! My Husband and I have come up with a first name if the baby is a girl. The name is
ISOLDE (is-old)
but we are stuck on two names for the middle name...
GENEVIEVE (jen-i-veev)
We like Genevieve because it is an old Gaulish (French) name and it is a name of a relative of my husband and it reminds me of Ginny from Harry Potter (Ginny is a nickname for Genevieve)
We don't like Genevieve because it sounds too much like Gwenivere and Gwen is a really popular name (I dont like Popular)
"From Genovefa, a Gaulish name possibly meaning "tribe woman". Saint Genevi?ve, the patron saint of Paris, inspired the city to resist the Huns in the 5th century."
RHIANNON (ree-anne-on)
"Derived from the old Celtic name Rigantona meaning "great queen". In Welsh mythology Rhiannon was the goddess of fertility and the moon. This name is also borne by a princess in Welsh legends, the wife of Pwyll."
We like Rhiannon because it is an old Celtic (Irish) name and it is my sister's middle name as well as the fleetwood mac song.
We don't like Rhiannon because it is a fleetwood mac song (haha) and because the singer Rianna has slightly ruined the name for me, especially since kids at the home I work for already think the two names are the same name just spelled differently.
SO what are people's opinions? Genevieve or Rhiannon? THANKS!
Re: HELP DECIDE BETWEEN TWO NAMES!
Really? Genevieve is becoming popular too! AHHH!!!
Isolde Genevi
I wouldn't panic...it might just be on this board and not in real life....but people on here LOVE it (I don't happen to be one of them). You'll get tons of people voting for it. It's come up a lot in the last few weeks.
But that might mean nothing. This board doesn't represent the real world by any means.

Genevieve.
Also, where is Gwen super popular? I only know one and she's 30.
I'm curious about the name Isolde. Is there one standard pronunciation of Isolde or are their different pronunications based on perhaps different language origins of the name? I have seen people pronounce it (is-old) like you are planning but I think I have also heard (ee-zold) or (ee-zold-uh).
Firstly, I want to say how friggin' lucky you are that your husband is agreeing to Isolde. Friggin' love that name. And I must say I'm jealous lol
So now to actually answer your question, I like Genevieve much better than Rhiannon.
Rhiannon
know a little girl named Rhianna she's a cutie..
Definitely Genevieve!!!

within my small family I have 3 cousins (all 6 or under) named Gwen and I have met at least 5 random other people who named their kids Gwen... I also know a few with Gwen as the middle name. Stefani really made it boom for our generation of moms.
Isolde Genevi
I have heard those all too. With the pronunciation I have listed its the typical way that Celtic people would pronounce it. It has been used in different cultures with different pronunciations. The name is Celtic in origin but it has been adapted for other cultures.
Isolde Genevi
THANK YOU! my DH is awesome! He was the one who found this name actually. We talked about names before we were pregnant and decided on a celtic name for first names and then he comes running into the room with his laptop and says "THIS NAME" I love the Legend of Tristan and Isolde (but hated the movie) SO it was a win win!
Isolde Genevi
I like both of your choices a lot, so you can't go wrong.
With it being a family name, I'm giving Rhiannon the edge.
This board decided to post 3x's IDK why?!!
Isolde Genevi
Isolde Genevi
you know thats really funny because my mom was the same way. I like the historical origin, and also since we decided to go with a Celtic name it was hard to find one we like that wasnt overplayed or trendy and wasnt a version of an english name - like "Shioban" which is the Celtic version of "Joan" which is the femine version of "Jon" which is an English name. No biblical or english names for us!
