has anyone called him that? He's the older baby in the picture right? So he's like...over a year old? Is there a reason you suddenly started worrying about his name?
If people shorten it, they will definitely shorten it to Eli. But they'll follow your lead. Elijah isn't a name that people automatically shorten like Matthew or Joshua.
Well,I love the name Elijah!!But I also named my daughter something that most people thought I made up,or made fun of because it was on a prominent sci-fi show.
Plus,I have one of those "failure" names everyone likes to talk about,so you may not want to take advice from me at all.:)

Seriously? My family is middle class, and they are pretty typical in all respects. I actually have had great luck with my name.I enjoy that if I hear my name,I know that person is talking to me and not one of the 5 other people with a very common name in a room. I feel it has made me more successful in my work.I work with people, and have been told by interviewers, supervisors, etc.that my name stuck with them and I often got called first for interviews, and I have people that I worked for and remember me still,a decade later. I feel having a unique name makes me a more memorable person although I know that isn't the general consensus. And no,I'm not a stripper, nor have I ever been. Thanks for that.

"Whether someone likes it or not or thinks it is fair or not, one of the first things their child is going to be judged on in life is their name, starting when their kindergarten teacher gets the class list, scans it, and, often subconsciously, forms a preconceived nothing about the kids. ?Jayden, Raelin, Carlee, MahKayla -?must be uneducated or lower class parents and therefore the child, whether it is true or not, is perceived as a less intelligent child, and often treated that way. ?Elizabeth, James, Cora, Daniel - sounds like kids with upper class parents, or at least parents who take their children's future seriously, therefore they are perceived and treated as smarter children.?"
1) Starr, JustCassidy was kidding since that's the type of responses people would give had someone asked about naming their own DC a name as unique as yours, although hearing your thoughts on the name is interesting and I have come across people with such unique names that they do stick with you and you remember them.
2) Is susanluccismom a new troll? Her responses seem crazy
3) Ruth, your son has a beautiful name, no, it's probably not to late to change it but from the sounds of it your family will come up with some cazy NN for any name you pick. Do they know that all this nicknaming has caused you serious regret?

Elijah is a fine name. If your family is using a nickname you don't like, you can reiterate that his name is Elijah and that is what you would like him to be called.

Awfully insightful from someone who named her son Beckham. Sounds like the name of Britney's Spears' next baby.
Just start calling him Eli and your family will eventually follow your lead. I wouldn't advise changing the name at this point unless it was really bad, which it's not. (It's not bad at all. Elijah is a nice name!)
I think based on the info on your family, even if you change his name, they will come up with some other random nn with the new name (seriously...ceiling?). That being said, I'd keep it. Or if it really bothers you, tell them you are legitimately thinking of changing his name due to their nn's. That might get their attention.
