First hypnobirthing class

I just got back from our first hypnobirthing class, and if you have the ability to take one of these I HIGHLY recommend it!

We spent a lot of the first class talking about the history of labor, failure to progress, learning stories about unwanted medication being applied, unnecessary c-sections, etc. (It was weird since we were debating on this similar topic on a different thread today.)

The focus of the class is to teach you that labor does not have to be traumatic and painful. Our bodies were made to do it, and the course teaches techniques to help you have a more comfortable birth. We have 5 more courses, so I'm no expert yet, but I'm very excited about the class and I hope I can follow through with becoming a hypnobirthing mama!

Re: First hypnobirthing class

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it! We did it back in the summer and I learned so much. I have had no fear or anxiety because of the class. I have no idea if it'll help during labor (although I think it will) but my pregnancy has definitely been better because of it. I put the CD on my ipod and I listen to it every night as I'm falling asleep. I have no problems sleeping that other pregnant women seem to have. I hope you have as great an experience as I did. Good luck!

  • Hypnobirthing was the BEST thing we did to prepare for childbirth! Those classes paid for themselves about a million times over. Enjoy!
  • So glad you liked it! We loved our class and it was so comforting to go over all the physiological steps of labor and the effects of stress on that process. The midwife/hypnotherapist who taught the class has participated in hundreds of births and it was comforting to know that as well.

Good luck with the rest of the class!

  • It was pretty amazing to see videos of births where the mom was calm and barely making any sounds. It's funny, we took a traditional birth class too and you don't realize how centered around pain everything is when it comes to L&D!
