I found the techniques to be very useful with the birth of our son. We're using them again with #2. If you cannot get into a more local class, I've heard that Hynobabies is a similar method that is more of a self-study course.
The key to having this technique be successful is constant practice and reading your scripts. We practiced ~4x a week with our first child and listened to the CD's nightly. That way, you're mind and body will slip right into your happy place when the time comes.
