"We're sorry, the maximum number of callers ...

waiting to speak to a representative has been reached. Please make your call at another time."

"Goodbye."

WTF! I had no idea that could happen.

(I'm trying to reach the State Disability department, as I've just realized they spelled my last name incorrectly.)

  • Do they have to pay to have you on hold or something?  I think they do that because they hope people will give up and just not call back.

I think their phone tree just has a limit, but still. I had no idea. My only question is when it comes time to deal with my taxes - the SSN will be correct, so I don't think it will matter, but I'd rather fix it now if it does.

  • Wow.  They basically just told you to go eff yourself.  LOL.

  • Yep, sucks.  I get that all. the. time. when I try to call the Department of Revenue here.  I'd freakin' love to make my call at another time, but it's ALWAYS full.  Baastards.  I either have to wait 3-5 business days to get an email answered, or pack up the kids and drive down to stand in line for 30+ minutes at the local office.

  • You must live in CA...they have another message that asks that you not call between 10-3 Mon-Fri due to high call volume.

FWIW having your name spelled wrong shouldn't be the end of the world come tax time as long as your social is correct, but if you can call in first thing in the morning it's usually easier to get through.

At least they're aren't any furlough days right now :-)

Oh yeah, we found that out too when my H was out of work for a month...pretty insulting.  My suggestion to you is if you have a state disability office anywhere near you, to just go in...we luckily have one near our house, and we got in and out, with all our questions answered and paperwork taken care of in several minutes.

Oh, in every other way they've been amazing - they even called me at home while processing my paper work when the doc forgot to put down my first day out. The name thing is the only question I have. I'll try first thing in the morning.

  • I got that message a lot while calling the EDD!

But to try to help your question, it shouldn't matter. I'd still want to call and hear it directly from them, but as a CPA in CA I can tell you that as long as the social is correct, thats all the IRS will go by in checking that all your SDI is reported.

  • I didn't know they could do that.
