Trying to choose a name...

I posted this on the baby names board as well, but I really value your opinions more.  DH and I are trying to decide on a name for out little guy, and we'll probably wait until we see him but I'd like to hear your thoughts anyway Smile[Poll]

Re: Trying to choose a name...

  • Not really a fan of Nicholas or Matthew.

I love the name Dominic (but spelled Domenic), but that was the name of a guy I dated for a few years just before meeting DH, so I'm not allowed to use it!

If we have a DS, his name will likely be Michael. I'm not 100% in love with it because it's a little plain, but it's the only name DH and I can come even close to agreeing on. I really love the nn Mike so that's just what I'll call him.

  • Thanks for your feedback!  DH's name is Michael, and I agree that it's a little plain but I love the idea of having 2 Mike's in my life that I love Smile  FIL is Dominic and the Italian tradition would be to name our LO after him.  Unfortunately, FIL has made some poor choices and hurt the family in a way that makes me not want to name my son that.

  • Yup, I hear you. I'd really like to use my Dad's name for our DS if LO turns out to be a "he", but it's a very Italian name and DH is just not down with our kids' names being that....ethnic lol. I'll have to use it as a middle name.

ETA: Are you opposed to the name being very Italian? Dominic is the traditional Latin way of spelling the name, but if you wanted to make it a little different than FIL's name, you could call him Domenico which is the Italian variant. Either way I'd still call the kid "Dom" for a nn...it's just a way of not having it exactly the same as FIL's (even though I get that the intention of carrying on the name is still there). Just a thought :) My DH would never go for it.  *sigh*

  • FIL's name is actually Domenico, but everyone calls him Dominic or Dom.  I'm not opposed to very Italian sounding names because our last name is so Italian that they all go really nicely...I of course am not Italian at all lol.  The names I liked were vetoed by DH because he thought they all sounded "made up" so we compromised on these two :)
