Winter outerwear

It sucks that I'm thinking about winter when it was 20C here today, but gotta plan, I guess.  For those that live in cold weather climates, what are you planning to dress your LO in for going outside?  A bunting suit?  Coat and snow pants?  I'm trying to figure out what makes the most sense.  I anticipate DD will be close to walking by the time Christmas rolls around, and it'll be getting cold even before that.  I want to keep her toasty in cold weather but I'm not sure if a separate coat and pants are too much to deal with or not.

  • We have a one piece snow suit for those times we will be doing something outside, or when we have to be outside for any real length of time. For running errands or just going to and from the car we have a winter jacket and boots. I'm trying to figure out the hat, scarf, mittens situation right now, because I can't imagine DS keeping any of them on. Ugh, I'm dreading winter.

  • I have snowpants and a heavy coat for him. I also have a snow suit. And I just got one of these:

I don't think that a snow suit would be enough in the stroller and I would like to continue walking throughout the winter. But if we're going in the car somewhere, he'll wear his coat.

  • We live in the mountains (Colorado high country) and it gets pretty cold. I was going through the same thing as you a week ago. I found this really cute one-piece that seems like it will work great. It isn't waterproof or anything but I'm not planning on letting my infant roll around in the snow anyway! :-)

  • For the car we use lightweight fleece (b/c of the carseat straps and safety) with an extra jacket in the car to put over that if it's super cold.  Usually we are just running back and forth between the car since it's too cold outside.  Otherwise we just get snowpants from Target and use the winter jacket over that.  A 3-in-1 jacket is great for winter!

  • We got a coat and pant set from Costco (we are in Calgary). We also have a fleece onesie for quick trips or when a chinook comes in. It also pains me to think about winter coming. I can't believe its the end of Sept and the weather has been so nice!

  • We have  a one piece fleece with a hood for car rides.  I also have a shell similar to sweettea's, but from buybuybaby,  It has a hood and things to go over the hands.  It does have feet so I guess if she starts walking I'll cut them off.  I figure between the two I'll have a nice mix to go outside with the 3 yo and keep her warm and safe in the car.
  • Thanks for everyone's input.  I already had a fleece bunting suit from MEC that I figure will work when it's not stupid cold, and I did buy a winter parka and snow pants for cold days when she'll be outside for longer.  Guess I'll have to find some boots, too...
