April 2012 Moms

*Bilionerd*

Can we get a re-post of those trisomy stats you posted last week or so? I'm extra biitchy today and the four thousand "we are low risk so it doesn't even matter" responses are making me want to stab my eyes out.

(I still have the link to your OP, but didn't want to take it from you.)

  • I used to be one of those people until that one post where I got educated about it. So I think giving people info is a great idea. They can still decide any way that they want, but I think making informed decisions based on facts is always best.

I agree. I don't care if anyone gets the scan or not. (I was under the impression that I would not be until my appointment on Friday when I discovered that my doctor was able to get it covered by insurance.) I do think some people may make a different decision if they had proper information, though.

  • Now that I have an understanding of it....It does bother me when people say they are "low risk" but part of the problem could be that is what their Dr is saying. And maybe he is referencing because they are young they have a lower risk than an older woman. But risk is still risk, especially if it's not just genetics that determine it.

  • will do. I refuse to even open any posts about NT scans anymore because of the ignorance.

  • i probably would have gotten it done had my inurance covered it. But i cant afford to fork out $1600  bucks to do it. it surprises me though that it was never even offered with my other two. (that I remember anyway)

  • You are at a higher risk for Down syndrome if you are older, right? I don't know about the other stuff, but don't your eggs just start to deteriorate in quality as you get older?
  • Also I will admit i am one of the ignorant people, i just read her posts with the stats and i didnt know any of that!! thanks for the info.

  • It does seem like a good amount of people are being told by their doctor that the scan isn't necessary because of their age or family history.

Argh. I don't know how I get sucked in everyyyy time. I think people just don't read the replies on posts, they just reply themselves. Even though myself and a few others talked about the misinformation/misconception, several more people just went on posting about their merry "low risk so I don't see the point!" ways.
