Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Losing the weight

I just had the worst day of this pregnancy so far. I need some self esteem boosting from you guys. please.

I went to my OBGYN appointment today and I've gained 12 lb since my last appt. 4 weeks prior. If that's not bad enough, the midwife at my practice found it acceptable to come in and tell me that I've "gained a phenomenal amount of weight." Crying I understand I started out overweight (duh, I was a month or so postpartum) and that I shouldn't gain much weight, but that comment was a little rude.

Please tell me that I'm pissed/sad/emotional over dumb sh!t and that the weight is lose-able. Tell me your weight loss success stories (or something in general to make me sane!) I need some sense talked into me from people I know & trust.

  • I was JUST thinking about you today. How weird. That was a rude comment. Next time just tell her to suck it.

  • I gained 85lbs with my DD. I got comments every time I went into my doctor. I use to cry everytime we left. I finally just started to turn around when they would weigh me. I don't know what I did wrong but after she was born I lost a lot of it right away ( I think a lot was water weight....you might have that too) My DD is now almost 7 months and I still have 15lbs to go but I have lost 70 already. It does come off I promise. People are just so rude. I use to get comments about how big I was getting all the time. It made my pregnancy miserable. I swear it will come off! Just think about me and my 85lbs. I am a freak story that people tell their friends about. Didn't help that my BFF only gained 18....

  • It will come off!  A lot of it is the baby, and you didn't have time to go down after LO #1.  It will come off once you are not pregnant!

I really hope it is water weight! I don't look like I've gained a ton of weight, so that's what I was thinking.

Is it safe to drink lemon water while pregnant to try to get rid of some of it? hmmm...?

  • Ugh, I tried everything to get rid of the water weight. My feet use to swell up so bad. When I was in labor the doc couldn't even get the epidural in my spine it was so swollen. She had to try 4 times.

    owwwww... 4 times?! that's horrible.

I'm going to ask my doctor what to do. when the midwife asked me "do you have any questions today?" I was so fixated on not punching her in the face I didn't even think to ask "Uh, what should I do about the weight I gained? should I be concerned?" I'll call tomorrow and talk to someone about it.

  • My doc told me to try and not eat as much...thanks doc. She said to try and drink a glass of water before each meal...but the thing was, I wasn't eating that much. Then I spoke with another doctor who told me some women just gain a lot, that didn't help me either. My husband just told me to relax and try and eat healthy and that is all I could do. I think maybe you just had a bad month. Just try and do the best you can. Screw everyone else.

  • I was already a fatty when I got pregnant with the boys. I gained 48 pounds during my pregnancy. I lost all but 10 of it until May of this year. I started WW Online and I've lost 47 pounds so far.

So from delivery weight,  I've lost 85 pounds.

It won't be easy but you can do it! Don't let a dumb comment like that get you down, you're going to do great.

  • I gained 55 pounds when I was pregnant, and my midwife would dramatically raise her eyebrows and very passive-aggressively would say, "Sooo,,,,anything you'd like to share?!!" after each weigh-in.  It used to irk me so badly and made me feel like a fat cow.

You never had the chance to lose the weight, so how are you expected to be "normal?"  I say be as healthy as you can be without making it hard on yourself, and know that this, too, shall pass.

Best wishes with both of your little munchkins!

  • thanks everyone! I knew coming on here would make me feel better.

I just hate having issues with eating and my weight as it is, and that jerk midwife's comment didn't help. Instead, she should have been a professional and said "your weight is a concern to us right now, so watch your diet a little more closely."

I would have been fine with that -- I'm not a total idiot, I know 12 pounds in a month isn't a great statistic! It was more the way it was presented... a "Phenomenal" amount of weight? I think that was a bit dramatic.

Anyway... I'm going to eat a little better and keep telling myself "I'm pregnant, I'm supposed to be gaining weight."

  • Yes Mama!  You are SUPPOSED to be gaining weight!  As long as you aren't sitting on your @ss eating bonbons, i'm sure you're just fine. That B!tch was being dramatic. You should have told her she was phenomenally ugly! Super Angry

FWIW, this story alone would make me think you are big... I saw your other post that your siggy pic was just a couple weeks ago, and I think you look amazing!
