Come in if your child has a nickname...

When you teach your child their name, will you teach them their full name, or nickname?

I know this seems kinda silly, but I am ordering my DDs the PBK Anywhere Chairs for Christmas.  I am trying to decide if I should monogram "Gina" (which is what we call 90% of the time) or "Regina".

Eventually she will recognize the letters in her name, so do we tell her it starts with R or G?

Silly post, I know.  Which would you order?  And why can't I make a decision? LOL

Re: Come in if your child has a nickname...

  • We usually put "Kate" instead of "Kathleen" and "Gracie" instead of Grace. ?But Julia's nickname isn't as mainstream so we put her full name on everything. ?

  • Oh Dande, I LOVE your sig! I want 3 girls too, don't tell DH or he may faint.

I wish her nn didn't start with a different letter. It's going to make it more difficult when she is learning to write it.

  • My son is William, but we usually call him Will.  So when we spell his name it's Will, but he does have some things (personalized cups) that say William, and I teach him that too.

If you always call her Gina, that's what I'd get.

  • I would put Gina since that's what you call her.  It reminds me of my sister.  Her name is Elizabeth Brooke but she goes by Brooke and that's what any personalization she had said.  She learned her entire name just fine :).
  • Instead of initials, could you just have the name "Gina" engraved since it is short?

Otherwise, I'd prob do the R (if doing initials), bc it is more formal and kinda goes with engraving, but that is just me.

  • Oh wait, maybe you are doing the name...don't' know why I thought you were doing initials. Duh.
  • I think I would put Gina since that is what she goes by most of the time. What color are you getting?
  • In your case, I would use Gina since that's what she usually goes by.  If you were engraving something that was more of a keepsake, I'd probably use her full name.

I worry sometimes about Jackson being confused about learning his name, too, since he's called by his middle name at least as often as his first name.  But he responds to both, so I'm sure eventually he'll learn to spell and write both as well.

  • I think I am going to get Gina.  Since that is what we call her, and she recognizes the letter G already. I want her to see the capital G and know that is her name.

I am ordering both girls pink chairs with white writing. I was going to order them different colors, then my mom reminded me that they may want each other's chairs and just to order the same

  • I when I ordered things I used their full name when they were little but as they got older wanted their nick names instead.

  • I think Gina is fine since it's a real name and she is commonly called that.  If her nickname was Gigi or something like that...maybe I wouldn't get that monogrammed on stuff.  My DD has a mainstream nickname too and it's used all the time.  I would definitely put it on a backpack or travel tote.
  • HA! I thought I might possibly get flamed for posting something so trivial. BIG dilemma what to monogram on anywhere chair!

But I got 5 stars instead.  Thanks nesties ;)
