Is this drool rash? (PIP)

Louie has had this rash on her face for about 4-5 days. She had an ear infection 2 weeks ago and cut 2 teeth last week, so she's been drooling and sucking her paci like a crazy woman. The mark under her nose is a scratch from an unfortunate face plant incident, but she's got a flat circular rash on both sides of her cheeks and a little under her chin. It doesn't seem to bother her and it's not itchy, but it's not going away either. I'm not using a new detergent and I would think if it's a food allergy it would go away after the food cleared her system, right? I'm trying to keep her from sucking her paci, but I don't know if I should put something on it or if I should get it checked out. Thoughts?

  • I think it's a drool rash and my LO's survived similar rashes around her mouth.  But I never even thought to ask her actual doctor :)

  • DD sucks her fingers so most of her drool runs down her chin...and leaves a little rash. I wouldn't worry too much. If it doesn't go away when it's not so soggy, then I'd be concerned.
  • Thanks guys! Rashes around the mouth make me nervous and I just needed a little reassurance.

If you can, try to keep her face as dry as possible for a day or two (I know, easier said than done). Keep a few cloths handy, like 8, everywhere, and just keep wiping. See if it eases up.

While it doesn't really look like it in the picture, it could also be eczema.  This is about the age that it showed up for E.  When it was bad, his looked like this:image

Poor baby! It does look similar, but her spots don't feel rough. She's had a few patches of eczema on her arms, but nothing right now. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, I'll take her in just to make sure. I'm beginning to think that we should just start having a standing weekly pedi appt.

  • My son had a face rash that looks just like that. I read somewhere to apply nipple cream (same stuff you need when you're just starting breastfeeding) on it before bed each night - cleared it up in 3-4 days so I'm pretty sure it was drool rash.
