Yup, that's what I would do. As far as the ones I've seen, boosters seem to run cheaper than convertibles.
Now, if your DD's carseat has flowers and butterflies on it... I'd reconsider.

Regular boosters are cheaper. However, the OP needs a harnessed booster, and those are not cheaper than convertibles.
You shouldn't move to a regular booster until a child is 4 years AND 40lbs at a minimum.
