I don't dislike, but I do think it's kinda cheesy.
If I were to use that name, I'd feel like all my kids should have fantasy character names and that we should to go the Renaissance festival and ComicCon every year.
If that's what I was into, then I'd probably go for it, but what if my child isn't into that? She'd grow up with a fantasy novel name.

Bad news: If you wanted to avoid 'fantasy novel' names you should have opted out of Bronwyn...

Wow... Not cool to comment on already named children.

Jeeze, doesn't anybody teach the newbs manners anymore?
Be snarky as hell, but not with a child that's already named. For most people, this is common sense.

Dude, she wasn't saying it was a bad name, she was just saying that it can fit into the fantasy genre, Lots of older Gaelic and Celtic names get used in fantasy novels. I don't know of any specific novels that use the name Bronwyn, off the top of my head, but she might.
It'd be like someone naming their child Georgia, but saying they don't like "place names". It's actually the feminine version of George, but also happens to qualify as a place name.

It's not like the crazy names from Lord of the Rings or anything.
I'm going with a no. Loved the book series and the film was ok, but like PPs said the fantasy connection ends it for me. And some of the LOTR names aren't that crazy - I met an Arwen once and I think the name is pretty, but I wouldn't go there.
Re: Heard this name....
All I can think of is Sapphira and the Slave Girl, by Willa Cather; Sapphira was a vengeful and cruel slave owner.
I must say, though, I do not think that most people will think of that book.

Probably not the Cather book, BUT...
Sapphira's a biblical name. In the New Testament, she and her husband were struck down dead by God for lying. Not the coolest association ever...

I feel this as well.

Wasn't there an ANTM contestant with that name? But she pronounced it Sa-fire-uh
