Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Sitting up question...

My LO has just started sitting up for more than 1 second.  He will sit up to play with a toy but once he's disinterested in the toy, BAM, he falls down...  He still randomly tips to the side or front.

When your LO started sititng up, how long did it take him/her to master it to where you can let him play alone for a minute without being right.there?

    Good grief, they're adorable!

He's been doing this for 2 weeks now.  Sad

  • Also about a week. I watched today to see how long he could sit up without toppling and he did for about 25-30 minutes today. He just mastered sitting up a few weeks ago. I think what really helped was my aunt had given us one of those kitchen toy thingies that had music playing when you touch the stove or sink. It was at a good height for him to play with sitting up so he really liked sitting to play with that specific toy.

  • DD first started sitting up for a few (like, literally, three) seconds when she was 5 months, and now she's been sitting up on her own without falling over for a few weeks... so I would guess it was about two weeks before I could leave her. When she first started sitting on her own for longer periods of time she'd tip over from time to time but no big deal. No she hardly ever falls over.

  • Ot was also probably about a week until she mastered it. But right after she mastered it she decided it was time to try crawling so she face plants all the time now anyway.

  • Wow that's awesome!  K didn't sit up unsupported until she was 6 months old...and even then she fell over a lot.  Now she can do it, but if she gets really excited or tries to look at something that is too high up, she will still fall over.  I try to only sit her up on carpet for now since she hasn't figured how to get into sitting position by herself.  Once she figures it out though, it's fair game between her and the floor!

  • DS has been sitting up since 4 months unsupported but I didn't feel comfortable leaving him for even a min sitting until he was 5 months. He stopped rolling over once he realized he can sit up and now that he realized his legs are for standing I can't get him to sit anymore.
