Finally have a name we both like!

So, DH and I have had a hard time coming up with names for our LO that we both like enough to add to the list. We finally have three. Hurray! Our only concern is that one is kind of unique ? Maverick ? and I just don't know if it's TOO unique. Yes, we understand he'll get the whole Top Gun reference all the time, but I guess we're not OVERLY concerned about it. Opinions please :-)

PS All middle name choices are a reference to DH's first or middle name... 

I was going to include a poll, but it wasn't working, so maybe just include a vote in the comments?

- Maxwell James (Max for short)

- Maverick Jonathan (Probably call him Mav at times)

- Maverick James

- Caleb Jon

I vote for Maxwell James. I really like it! My second choice would be Caleb Jon. Maverick is ok, but NMS.

I like Caleb the most, but I like Max as well. I have a tough time getting over Top Gun, but I don't hate Maverick either.

Not a fan of Maverick -- sounds a bit like you're trying too hard.  Maxwell and Caleb are both great names, though.

My favorite is Maxwell!  I really like this name.  Caleb is a distant 2nd.  I am not a fan of Maverick either.

I really like Maxwell James. It's not extremely common, but not so unique that your LO will constantly get comments/questions.

The only one I like is Caleb. Maverick is beyond awful. Can you seriously imagine an adult with that name?

I had a name love affair with Maverick for several years (after I saw the name in an article about what NOT to name your baby, of all places!) 

I still love it, but it's not on my list anymore. I totally 100% say go for it. I think you either are, or you aren't the kind of people who would name their kid Maverick. Can you pull it off?

He can go by Mav or Rick at any point in his professional career if need be.

I really wanted a Maverick however it was just too much for us.  DH kept pointing out that in Top Gun, after Maverick introduces himself and his name, the response is "Did your mother not like you?"

I do love the nn Ricky but it did not go well with our last name at all.

I think Maverick isn't terrible, but I do know 2 dogs named Maverick so that's the first thing I thought of.

Caleb is my favorite.

Maxwell is a great name.  Maverick besides being a Top Gun Reference, sounds like a character from a Harlequin Romance Novel.

Do you remember the line in "Top Gun" when he introduces himself as Maverick... and the woman says "Maverick, what, did your parents not like you??"

 I might also mention that the character's name is Pete Mitchell, his call sign is Maverick.

Maverick James is my favourite by far...but I also wonder about how well it would age. Sure he could go by Mav or Rick...but I don't like either on their own.

I really like Caleb and Maxwell, but I must say, I hate Maverick. It sounds like a joke nickname to me.

I teach and I had a Maverick.  Everyone would ask him, "Oh, did your parents like Top Gun?".  Poor kid would sigh and shake his head no.  Often he cut off the question like he was waiting for it.  It was also odd to say.  Now I think you might get more Sarah Palin references then Top Gun.  But if you like it, go for it.

Agreed. Sorry--I like unusual names and want to get behind Maverick, but I just can't do it.

I vote Maxwell then Caleb.. sorry I really don't like Maverick   I think topgun, politics and generally sounds like its trying to be cool     I also don't think a Maverick is something I would want a teacher or employer to have as the first association with my child

I like Maxwell and Caleb.  Your child will resent you if you name him Maverick.  Name a dog Maverick.
