Bedtime- How long does it take?

How long does it take to get your LO to sleep for the night?

I just timed it and it took 20 mins to get Ava to sleep.  Is that a long time?  It feels like it.  She is so fidgety when I lay her down and it seems to take her a while to settle in a close her eyes.

  • Depending on how hard DS fights it, bedtime can take anywhere between 45 min and 1.5 hours. But he's a terrible sleeper and fights it until he literally passes out.

  • Bring up at 7 and give bath every other, pjs and crib and out by 7:40 latest:)

  • I'm not sure how long it actually takes him to fall asleep, because he goes into his room/crib awake and falls asleep on his own.  However, the bedtime routine takes us a while.  Normally he gets solids at 5:30 or 6p, bath time for about a half hour or more until at least 6:30-7p, then nursed then bed by 7 or 7:30p.  So, the whole routine takes us an hour or two each night.

  • From the time I put her down in her crib to when she falls asleep can be anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes.

  • Diaper + jammies + kiss goodnight = approx 4 minutes

We put him down awake to fall asleep on his own. I've never timed it but I've heard 20 minutes is an average for them to fall asleep.

  • After solids, DD gets a bath at 7:30, then PJs and nursing and is usually in her crib at 8 unless we read a few books to stall until DH gets home.  She either falls asleep right away or it takes her a couple minutes.

    This :)

  • It varies. After her bath, I give her a small bottle, then put her PJs on and "brush" her teeth (ok, tooth). Once I put her down she'll talk to herself/play in her crib for anywhere from 0-30 minutes. Unless she's screaming, I don't go back in.

  • I guess it depends on what you mean by bedtime.  I usually read to her, nurse her, and then change her before putting her in her crib.  That takes about 15 minutes...but once she's in her crib, she's down and I don't have to go in there any more (until she wakes up at 1am and 4am - yes, still).

Side note- your siggy is sooo cute!

By bedtime I mean time actually in the crib until asleep (although the other answers have been helpful too).  It took 20 mins from the time I put her in her crib until she was asleep. I had to stay in there and shhh her and pat her back.

  • We bottle feed and rock and it just takes the time for him to suck it down and we lay him down awake or asleep once he's done, so maybe 10-15 minutes.

ETA: If he fusses around to get comfortable, it may take him 5 minutes to fall asleep.  Now, naptime during the day: different story.  30-45 minutes...

  • from the time she is in the crib to asleep...anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.  I try to go by her sleep cues while we are reading books or having a bedtime bottle (rubbing eyes, eyes closing, getting distracted and pushing the book away), and if I see the signs, in she goes.  Lately it's a small protest everytime, even if within seconds of fussing she turns over and goes right to sleep.
  • Diaper, pjs, bottle, snuggle = 20 min or so. I put her in the crib awake and walk out. She either falls asleep immediately or plays/stands/talks for a half hour first.

  • Time in the crib until asleep = 2 minutes, max.

  • Bath, boob, book ~ 20-30 minutes. I put her down awake after the book and leave and she hardly ever makes a peep (naps are a different story).

  • It depends on how tired she was to start with. It could be anywhere from instantly to 20 minutes.

  • Kelsy is doing this new thing that I just love.  When I put her in her crib, she knows it's sleep time.  I put her down on her back (even though she will flip right over) and she opens her mouth like a little fish waiting for me to give her the paci.  I think it's the cutest thing ever.  Just had to share ;)

  • J is asleep before I even put him to bed. On a bad night he falls asleep as I am putting that blanket on him. That's right, my baby invented going to sleep

  • I'd say maybe 10 minutes or so. It used to take less but now that he's discovered how much he can move with scootching and rolling so it take him a little while to finally find a comfy spot and fall asleep. Also the last couple nights he's discovered the breathable bumpers don't provide much insulation so he can kick the side of the crib against the wall and make fun thumping noises. I figure he will only take longer and longer to quit "exploring" and go to bed from here on out as he gets more mobile but since he's falling asleep happy on his own eventually I have tried to not intervene.
