Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Why do I always agree to this...

I said it was ok for DH to go to a baseball game with a friend tonight. Which is normally fine, but every time DH does this, Henry seems to be having a terrible day and I could really use the help. Of course today is no exception. Henry has been crabby, clingy, and a total PITA all day. Erg, now I get to do the evening/bedtime by myself. Nights like tonight make me wish I could have a glass of wine.

  • Have a glass of wine after littla man goes to sleep. That's what I do after a long day. It helps me wind down before going to bed.

You can drink a little bit while BFing. If you have a small glass or half glass right after he nurses and he won't nurse again for a few hours or so, it will be fine.

  • You can have a glass of wine. You can pump and dump if you're worried about it but alcohol metabolizes out of the body within a few hours or less, it doesn't sit in your breast milk. You deserve it.
  • What my OB told me was that it is a very very small percentage of the alcohol that I consume that makes it to LO and that as long as I am not feeling any effects from it, it is fine to nurse.  I wait until she goes to bed though, knowing she won't need to eat again for several hours.  I did go out one night and she had formula while I pumped and dumped.  I felt guilty about it at the time, but now I see that in the scope of things, it's not a big deal and that I deserve to go out and have fun too.

ETA:  But if your hubby isn't home I wouldn't have more than a glass anyway just in case there is an emergency and you have to drive or something...

  • Thanks everyone, I decided to take your advice and have a glass. I went down to our wine cooler to grab a bottle, and it was EMPTY...ugh. I guess it doesn't fill up on its own, weird.

  • Since you have no wine. Fill up your tub or a dishpan and soak your feet. Seriously. I hadn't done that in ages and I melted.
