I'm learning the hard way that with doctors, it really seems like everything is just a matter of opinion.
I've been on bed rest for two weeks after being in the ER with extreme pain. After three ultrasounds (the first one wasn't done by a tech), I was diagnosed with two subchorionic hematomas (SCHs) and the ER doctor told me to rest, stay hydrated, no sex, no strenuous activity, no heavy lifting, etc. and to see my regular doctor (GP) in two weeks for a follow-up ultrasound. Some nights I have had pain so bad I can't sleep, and I have also been dealing with crazy insomnia.
My GP appointment was this morning and lucky me, had already been booked well in advance because I was told to come back at around 9 weeks anyway. My GP told me she will not be sending me for a follow-up ultrasound and that despite a two page report and recommendation from the ER doctor, that she disagrees completely and that there is "zero chance" the pain is related to the SCHs and that is has to be round ligament pain. Right, because RLP would send a woman screaming and crying into the ER scared sh!tless it's an ectopic pregnancy (and I have a VERY high tolerance for pain). My GP contradicted everything in the report, told me she bled during her entire first trimester with twins and has healthy children.
Lastly, she told me she wasn't going to try and listen for the heartbeat because there's a better chance she'll be able to hear it in a week and to come back and do my next round of bloodwork. I really felt like today's appointment was pointless. The routine ultrasound is at 18 weeks, which means waiting another 8 weeks to check on the SCHs.
I came home, and called the maternity clinic that's within the hospital where I saw the ER doctor and where I plan on delivering (it's a group of all OBs). They told me I need a referral from my GP. I explained my situation and the fact that my GP is denying recommended follow-up care. The nurse quickly looked up the report while I was on the phone and I have an appointment next Tuesday afternoon. Seriously, I feel like my GP can suck it.
Re: So choked (long)
Yes, thankfully.
Thank you ladies. I will be trying to find a new GP now, to deal with non-prenatal care only. We have a really severe doctor shortage here.
I'm so glad they're concened and will get you in! That must be so frustrating and I know I wouldn't handle that very well at all! I hope your appointment goes well!
Wow, yea I'd be pissed with the GP! GL with everything!
I had an SCH with the previous pregnancy and was on constant pain the last 2wks before I lost the baby =0( I have one again but it's a small one and, thankfully, no pain.
