Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Do you let LO crawl around on the grass?

OK, so I am probably a crazy mom, but whenever DS and I go to the park, I have a big blanket he crawls around and plays on. I was reading WTE the first year, and it talks about babies crawling around on the grass at 8 months. Does everyone else do this and I'm just a germophobe?

  • Sure. He loves the taste of grass.

  • If it is in a yard or area where I know animals shlt or plss in then no, otherwise she loves the grass.

Those are the germs I worry about, since we go to the park a block away. We don't have a yard because we are still renting a condo in a  nice suburb right outside of Boston. There are literally 41 parks in this town, but almost all of them are dog friendly. They do have signs near the playground area for no dogs though.

I guess I should probably just relax though and just scan the area for dog poop.

  • Oh yeah, I let DS roll around in the grass, even with dogs. I don't let him eat the grass, so I'm not worried about germs.

  • I'm a germ a phobe aw well but once LO became mobile I had to give it a rest.  She loves the grass she pulls at it.  Since we live in New York I wanted her to enjoy it before we have snow for 6 months.

lol. Yes, I let DD crawl/play on the grass in most places. She isn't allowed in our backyard because we have 2 pugs that do their business in the yard and while we pick it up I am just not comfortable with her playing there yet. Maybe when she is walking. She can/does play in the front yard, parks, etc.

  • If she's wearing white, I use a blanket. Otherwise, no.
  • i'm not worried about dirt or germs but i do put him on a blanket.  He gets a prickly rash where his skin touches the grass.  If he crawls off i don't worry about it.

  • DH and I both have allergies to grass so I'm nervous about putting DD in it.  I'd love to let her roll around and crawl in it, but I'm worried what her skin's reaction will be.  Only one way to find out...
