My neice, who is pregnant with baby #2, just called and said they found the perfect name for their future daughter- Kendyal. And that isn't a typo, she spelled it out for me. Is it as horrible as I think it is?

 

Big sister is Karly, which though not my style, is still a cute name.

Superfluous Y! And the whole "all the kids are named with Ks" thing is not my style. Kendall as a name is nice...but that spelling is horrible.

I tried explaining to her, as nicely as possible, that adding random letters into a name will change the pronunciation. Not sure I got through though.

Yeah, I see Kendy-al too.  Kendall is such a nice name, its on our long list

My cousin and his girlfriend named their daughter Jourdyn - worst spelling of that name ever!

Poor kid.  Why do people insist on adding Y's to names and screwing them up?  I read it as someone yawning halfway through Kendall.

Does she know how to spell?  What's up with the random Y...it doesn't even fit?  It's only purpose is to screw up the pronunciation.

You should refer to the baby as Ken-DIY-ahl (real drawn out on the last syllable) every time you see or talk to her. Maybe she will get the hint and change her mind.

So Funny story...

I am pregnant with DD#2 and we fell in love with the name Kendall. We were set until we told his step-mom. She asked me why I would not spell it  Kyndell. I replied because it looks made up and stupid.

Her reponse was "So DD#1 names starts with a K and has a Y in it, their names should match" I quickly  told her no that I would not be spelling it that way and ended the convo.

Fast forward 2 weeks later: We get a package in the mail for none-other-than Kyndell (last name).

So, we quickly announced we would not be naming the baby Kendall after all.

This. If your explanation fails buy her a phonics book. Adding the y there changes the pronunciation from what she is going for to something completely different.
