Re: Awful first names

  • I would hate for a hospital worker make fun of my name.

Sorry I think that is kind of rude.

What's the difference between that and a teacher making fun of her students names, which I see all the time?

If OP went up to the patient and said, "Ha ha you have a stupid name," that would be rude.  I wouldn't call this post rude.

However, since most of these names are very unique, I do wonder if it is a HIPAA violation.

I think they're both wrong. Sometimes the names are awful but it just seems wrong to make them public like this.

I totally agree! Being a teacher or in the medical field....if you are at work, you are supposed to be professional and right now she is NOT.

I wouldn't want to make fun of someone on the internet like this...

    Sorry.

  • By the viewpoint of that, no names should be made fun of/commented on. How is it less rude to make fun of family member/friends' names? No matter whose "youneek" spelling or "made up" name you're posting, it's all the same in the end. Do you post "you shouldn't make fun of people's names!" to every post doing so?

No, I don't BUT you are at work and should be PROFESSIONAL!!! Sorry, If it wasn't for those people being in the hospial then she would NOT have a job.

If I say I know somone named.... xyz what do you think of that name...its different. I am not saying its a patient or client......

I am sorry but I think being at work in that type of enviroment you should NOT be posting about horrible paitent names while you are on the clock. Its WRONG.

  • I feel like this would be different if OP hadn't mentioned working in a hospital or knowing these people personally.  But, as it is, I agree it seems inappropriate.

  • Interesting...I used to be very active on this board last year, and the general consesus was, at the time, this is an outlet for people who have to bite their tongue, either in personal relationships or professional settings. Teachers, nurses, social workers...we've had quite a few of each. Only first names are ever mentioned. If OP hadn't said that she worked in a hospital, I think it would be pretty obvious with her handle.

Oh please! It isn't any different than making fun of what a coworker in a non-education or medical setting names their child or what a friend or family member names theirs. They are awful first names you can't really dispute that.

i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • The professionalism controversy aside, I personally find it very hard to believe she ran across all this awfulness in one day - presumably by noon. Confused

  • I agree with PP's its no different than a teacher making fun of their students names, had you have not know she was at work you probably would have had a very different post. As for the potential HIPPA violation, I would think if a full name was posted that would be grounds for violation. I say lighten up already, it wasn't rude it is a dang opinion.

  • Christda was on a claims form that was on my desk the other day.
  • There's nothing rude or unprofessional about this post, it's no different than teachers writing down the first names of their students. She didn't put last names on or say which hospital she works at so I don't see anything that could lead to a HIPAA violation. Lighten up.

And yup, those names are awful!

  • My thoughts excatly. Who cares...they are terrible names. Its no different than making fun of someone who your friends with on Facebook who names thier kid something stupid. Some people need to get off their high horse.

    This.

  • IT just feels wrong to me to repeat a name you heard at work. (patient, student) I work with the public and I have now seen a wide variety of names that I will not be sharing here or elsewhere. It just seems that person trusted me with their information and it's none of my buisness to make it public.

It just feels different to say "i heard this name that I really hate" and "I heard this name of a patient I saw today" or "child I taught"

To be honest the more I read these kind of posts the more uncomfortable I have become with them. It didn't bother me at all before and I have found these posts interesting. I don't know what's different now.

  • Dang it, and I had settled on Passion Laporche Beonnuh.   Those aren't good names?
