Reminds me of tinsel... and who would want to name their child after tinsel?

I'd rather name my baby Tinsel than Tinsley. At least tinsel is pretty.

  • I have heard the name Tinsel just once, and that is by way of the actress, Tinsel Korey. (She plays Emily within the "Twilight Saga" films.) Tinsel. . . .

Also, isn't the feminine version of Lee spelled "Leigh"? This leads me to pronounce "Peighton" as "Pee-ton" and not "Pay-ton". Oddly enough, I find that both pronunciations are equally horrible: with or without the pee.

There's "neigh," too, which makes parents do the things like Peighton.

I still say it looks like Pigton.

Not going to quote because mine is too long to delete--

I didn't know that!  Every Arwen I've met (all middle names) was named after the Tolkien character. I guess I'd do it if I were VERY Welsh.

Lucianna I was unfair to.  It really is a legit name, and if you're Italian, it's a fine name to use.  Otherwise, though, it looks like a forced feminization of  an increasingly popular boy's name.

  • That list is full of awful but the one that really stuck out to me was the kids named after deserts.  Seriously, GOBI?  And that poor child named Chihuahua- I think I remember that it has one of the highest violent crime rates in Mexico.

  • You may want to consider your declaration of "urban legend proved" on "Female."

When parents don't fill in a first name on a birth certificate, the SSA often receives a gender, i.e. Female Jones. You also noticed "Unknown" on the list ? this is the same thing. You may also notice "Babygirl" and "Babyboy" listed in the extended list. These are just artifacts of data collection.

  • I wonder how many of the "Female" "Baby" and "No Name" are for poor still born babies that are not given names. They still get a birth certificate, so that might explain some of those.

For place names, I actually like Calais and Montserrat.

It was a joke.  Sahara is the real name, but as long as you're naming ONE kid after a desert...

I got the Cosette reference--it was part of the reason I think it's awful, honestly!

There are way more Females than Unknowns, Babys, and Namenotgivens.  When you're already marking "female" on the sheet...I'm betting a handful of these really are named Female.
