Baby Names

Oscar's little brother - still no name. Please vote!

I am due in 3 months and we know that our now 15 month old son Oscar will have a little brother.  Because they will be close in age and because I really like a particular style of name, I want their names to flow.

I am an avid baby name follower and I have been through every name possible with my hubby.  Some of my favourites along the way have been vetoed - Pierce, Theodore, Edison, Everett and Isaac - and I have vetoed some of his, namely Walter (Wally).

We are left with six that we agree on.

Elliot (Eli), Charlie, Henry, Frederick (Freddie) and Bennett.

I think that our hearts lie with Charlie right now (a family name) but I am in need of input as to whether it can work with our last name.

Our last name starts with Ch as well and rhymes with Choviak.

Would Charlie Choviak be too alliterative or rhymey?  I really love the name as it belongs to both my grandfather and great-grandfather but I don't know if it can work.

Picture Oscar and Charlie as brothers.  Now picture Oscar Choviak and Charlie Choviak.  Does that work?

Thanks for the input.  This is much harder the second time around!

  • I think Frederick sounds the best with Oscar, but Charlie is fine. Both work with your last name.

  • Hmm I am hesitate with the two CH starts with the name, I love Charlie though.  I also like Henry a lot, but agree that Fredrick goes great with Oscar.
  • i like elliot the best.

    other suggestions: evan, simon, noah

i don't think charlie "choviak" is too rhymey...i just dislike charlie as a first name.

  • I grew up with a Charles Choviack (not the last name exactly but sounds pretty much the same.)  I never thought twice about it.  I know a lot of people don't like it, but in your case I think it is okay.  GL

  • I think Oscar and Frederick flow perfectly together. Oscar and Charlie work fine, but I don't think Charlie flows well with your last name.

  • As the mommy of a Charles Henry.. I love both of those names.

But do your kid a favor and go with Charles, not Charlie.  Charlie is a nice nickname, but not a formal enough name for your future doctor/lawyer/president/CEO.

  • I love the name Elliot:)
  • I love Charles, Henry and Frederick!

I'm not a fan of alliterative names though so my vote is for Frederick Charles Choviak.

    Oscar and Freddie!

Another vote for Frederick.  Frederick Charles to be exact.

    Oscar and Freddie <3

  • I actually like aliteration in masculine names...I think it makes it more memorable and jumps out. Oscar pairs well with Henry and Charlie to me first, then Bennett and Frederick, then Elliot.

I don't see many people consider Frederick. I actually really like this name, and it's different/uncommon enough to stand up to Oscar. HTH!

  • Henry, Elliot and Charles are my votes.  I love the name Charles/Charlie but since your LN starts with the CH its too much for me.  I really don't like Frederick or Freddie.

  • I love Henry. I think it goes well with Oscar, and I think it's one of the most adorable names you can call a little boy lol.

I'm not sure how I feel about Charlie.... Mostly because of the "Ch Ch"

  • We have an Elliott (not a fan of Eli or any nn) and were going to name LO Oscar if she had been a he!

  • I think Charlie Choviak works. Henry might be my fav out of your list, but Charlie would be my second fav. Oscar and Charlie sound great ad a sib set, IMO.

  • I like Charlie best. Otherwise I like Franklin.

FIL has been pushing both "Oscar" and "Levi" for our LO.

  • I like Charlie, and I like the meaning (to you) behind it.  Out of the others you listed, Elliot/Eli is probably my favorite.
