I am hoping this would be the right place to post this. My son is on the Infant Neocate with DHA and ARA. We recently found out his insurance company will cover the cost of it, they are actually covering 30 cans a month. It has just been a huge headache getting everyone on the same page including the Pharmacy at CVS, His GI and his Insurance Company.
We have had it filled only once and that was last week and we ended up having to go back on 3 occasions because they said they couldn't get a full shipment in at one time. Then they got to the last box and a half and it's been a week. They said that it was on back order. They said the company they go through which is Cardinal said they had to wait. So I call Walgreens and ask if they can get it, they call the company they get it from and are told yes they can get it. So, I ask who is the company they go through and of course it's Cardinal.
I am so confused now because I don't know who to call. Nutricia the company of makes the formula will not do it through our insurance because Florida is not included in their insurance negotiations.
If anyone has experience with this and even better if you are in Florida, but if you just have experience and can share some tips that would be great. I just can not stand that I finally got it all situated with the insurance and my Dr. and now the pharmacy can't get it.
Thanks a million for any help!
Re: Neocate Formula Help getting it!!
It's funny you say that because I just found one after posting this. I went on the Neocate site and found one that is here in town, or well they deliver statewide in Florida, so I called them and unfortunately they were closed but the answering service told me they do it for Neocate so I am calling my insurance tomorrow to see if I can fill it through them and have them cover it.
I believe the supply company will be more helpful than the pharmacy as well. It has been a constant headache getting everyone on the same page. The pharmacy at first didn't even want to do it then they didn't want to send the stuff to my dr for prior authorization, and I was just getting it situated and then this.
I will for sure be checking with the supply company it will save me a drive to the pharmacy and hopefully the headache!
A pharmacy and DME have to order differently. Formula is best served through a DME (just find one that works with your insurance--just like any provider, they must accept your insurance). Also, make sure your insurance informs you EXACTLY what they need before you can begin so that you do not get charged because you were missing the proper authorizations.
