Baby Names

DH has zero ideas!

We're expecting in February and going to be surprised about the gender. For a girl we both love Mckenna but Hubby shoots down every boys name I've come up with and has no ideas of his own. The only boys name he's semi-okay with is Quinn. I really want to go with Shea Delaney, nice and Irish :) Also love the name Edison but everyone I've told this to thinks its dumb with a capital D.

I'm considering not telling anyone our ideas next time around, especially not my m.i.l.

  • Hate Mckenna. It's trendy and icky with the 'c' and it's wrong without the 'K' capitalized as it should be for a surname, but then you have a random capitalized letter. If you insist, I like Makenna much better, but still dislike it. I prefer Edison among your choices. Quinn is too feminine for me, and Shea is, as well. I realize you think of them as masculine and they're used traditionally for boys, but they say "girl" to me because of associations. Edison is the only masculine choice.

  • I actually like Mckenna. I have always liked it as a girls name, though I think it has some trendiness is certain parts of the country. I also really like Shea Delaney for a boy. Loving the Irish to them both... Stand your ground, my names haven't hit the popularity chart either!!

  • Sorry I have an ick factor with McKenna too.  Not really a fan of Edison either -- would you call him Ed?

But I feel ya on the boy name - my hubby and I agree on NOTHING and it is frustrating.

  • What about Delaney Shea? I think that flows better.

  • I don't have a problem with McKenna (or whatever spelling you choose)...but I know SEVEN Delaney's.....ALL GIRLS. So when I see Delaney/Delainey....I associate that with a little girl who will probably go by the nickname Laney/Lainey (which six of the seven girls I know go by).

And don't be too hard on him about not coming up with a boy name. I found that the more I pushed with SO about names....the more he came up with names that I couldn't stand just to act like he was giving his input. I have a month left (give or take) and we dont know the sex of the baby and only have the first name for a girl....no middle name.....and no first or middle name for a boy. The names on my list, he doesn't "love" but he doesn't hate (whereas on his list....I cannot even pronounce the names nor can I stand them).....so most likely we will end up waiting until the baby is born and then deciding in the hospital (and most likely....the boy name will be something off my list).
