Baby Names

Carlotta

I'm not Italian enough to use this name, am I? (read...we're not even a little bit Italian).

But I love it! And I think the NN Lottie is the cutest, but I'm sick of Charlotte.

Any thoughts?

Re: Carlotta

  • It reminds me of the phantom of the opera and not in a good way. The very large very loud very annoying opera singer was named Carlotta.

  • What about just Lotte? When I looked up Lotte on behindthename.com, it said it's also a diminuitive form of Liselotte. Maybe that suits you better.

Also, Carlotta isn't only Italian - it's used in Spanish and Portugese, and Charlotta is used in Swedish. Does any of that fit your background?

oooo I'm a quarter Sweedish! Maybe I could get away with that.

Thanks for doing some research for me!

I immediately had this association too. I'm a huge Phantom fan :)

  • Lottie is such a sweet nickname. I don't think you have to be Italian (even a little bit) to use the name Carlotta. I say go for it!

ETA - I also think Liselotte is a pretty option, but I wouldn't have the guts to use it.

Thanks! Bless you if you got through the whole thing!

ETA: Oh! And I've been meaning to tell you that my DH suggested Sable out of the blue recently. I was shocked because I've been trying to get him on board with Mabel for months now. I was very pleasantly surprised.

  • I love Lottie but I'm not a fan of Carlotta.

  • I LOVE Carlotta.  I can't even begin to say that I hate Charlotte, but I am so exhausted by its overuse.

I wouldn't even try to peg you italian/portuguese/spanish/swedish based on the name.
