I'm thinking of doing some sort of wine-of-the-month type club for my dad's birthday gift. Since I think you're the resident December 2010 wine expert, do you have any suggestions, or any other wine-related gifts that might be nice (I was also thinking of gift certificates to local vineyards but my dad might like it more if the wine comes to him instead of him having to go to the wine).

And if anyone else wants to chime in, feel free!  thanks!

Generally I am not a fan of wine of the month type clubs. Because they have to purchase so many bottles to meet demand, they generally don't have unique or interesting wines.

For these types of things I've found it better to pick one vineyard and join their wine club, which will deliver somewhere between 1-6 times a year or to connect with a local store that will deliver/ship and tell them your tastes and ask them to put together a pack of wine every month or however frequently you want. You'll get way more interesting and small production stuff that way.
