I am trying to avoid the NN Maddie. My sister suggested Linnie. I often call her Madelinnie when we are at home and playing around. Other NN suggestions?
1. LInnie is cute, but it's not intuitive to Madeline.
2. Maddie IS intuitive and very popular.
3. If you want to avoid Maddie, I think the best thing you can do is insist on using Madeline in full. It makes the most sense, and people won't side-eye you for insisting that they call your child some random, contrived nickname.
Re: Linnie as NN for Madeline?
I agree!
I know a lot of Madeline/Madelyns and they all go by Maddie. :S I like Linnie. I've never heard it being used before.

4. Nicknames aren't a necessity, anyway.

Absolutely!!! I hate the nn Maddie and Linnie is so much prettier and way less common! I love it! Go for it!
As for suggestions, I've always considered Della or Leena/Lina.
