Evenflo Maestro question

If you have the Evenflo Maestro car seat, does it become a backless booster?  I saw it at ToysRus and the description was that it converts to a backless booster but I could not see how.  It appeared to be one piece.

We have a Graco Nautilus, which converts to a backless booster and it's easy to see how it would do that but I can't see it on the Maestro.

Does anyone have this seat, and know?  Or, does it just stay as a booster with a back?

Re: Evenflo Maestro question

  • We have them in 2 cars and I am pretty sure that it's only a high back.

It goes up to 50 lb harnessed, then to 100 as a belt positioning booster.

ETA: It's the Graco Nautilus that's 3 in 1 and becomes a backless booster. Which you know since you have one. :-)

  • The maestro does not become a backless booster and is outgrown as a highback booster shortly after the harness is outgrown for height. It's a very good seat, but if you purchase it just know that you'll need a dedicated booster later on.

  • Really? It's supposed to go up to 57" or something and 100 lbs as a belt positioning booster. That's not 'shortly after' 50 lbs in my book.

DS is almost 47" and 45 lbs and is all torso. He JUST made it to the top slots on the harness recently. He's got at least another inch of torso height before he has to switch to the belt.

I am pretty sure the ghm or emiliemadison have posted the same thing before. So, maybe one of them can chime in. I recommended that seat to my cousin, and I told her the same thing after reading it on either here or carseat.org.

ETA: Here is a post that I found

  • Because the headrest doesn't get taller after the child outgrows the harness for height, the tops of their ears will reach the top of the shell fairly quickly after outgrowing the harness and that's when it's outgrown for height. It's the only negative thing I ever see posted about that seat.

  • If that's the only issue, then I am completely not worried.

DS is huge-- well over the top of the chart for height-- and has a good 3 inches before his ears hit the top of the shell. That's torso height, so it will be another couple of years before he outgrows the seat.

  • Given his age if he gets a few more years out of that (and if it's 3 inches of torso height that should be 3 years) you'll be in very good shape to move him into a backless booster at that point!

  • Thank you, ladies!  This has been very helpful for me.
