Any computer nerds?

Help!  My Yahoo Messenger keeps randomly closing itself and I can't figure out why.

I've updated to the latest flashplayer.  I've updated and run my virus scan (McAfee by the way) several times.  I've cleaned out all temp files and cookies.  It said I didn't need to defrag.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled messenger.  I don't know what else to try.  Unfortunately that is pretty much the only way I talk to DH while he's in Iraq and it's driving me crazy that it does this.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Re: Any computer nerds?

  • Yikes! You did everything I would have suggested. Hope you figure it out.
  • Loading the player...
  • What other programs are you running while you are using it?

  • No, but if you keep having trouble, you can use a program called Trillian - it is one program that will run AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and a bunch of others with just one window open.  I've used it for years and I love it.  Its a free download.

  • Sometimes it's while I have Firefox or IE going but most of the time I'm not running anything else.  It closes itself probably 3 or 4 times a day... not all that often but enough to annoy the hell out of me.  Oh and if it makes a difference it doesn't just shut down, it gives me the "Yahoo Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" box which I have no choice but to click and then it closes.

    Me too!

And armandos if I can't get my messenger to knock it off in the next few days I will be trying this Trillian thing.

  • I wish I had a better answer for you but I've had a similar problem with other chat services. Something about other programs interfere easily with these chat providers.

Have you tried gmail? You can email and chat directly and I've never had problems with it.

Unless this is happening with other things in IE, it's probably a Yahoo problem that doesn't like one of the the programs you are running.

  • Hmm that's what I figured.  I guess if I can't figure it out I will try a different messenger service.  Sucks because almost everyone I talk to uses Yahoo.  LOL
