No length increase

Had a LO's 6 month visit yesterday and she hadn't increased in length since her 4 month visit. Still 28 inches. The Dr. didn't seemed worried, but I was since she's increased in length normally since birth. Anyone else have this issue?

As a side note, I'm switching from the family doctor to a pediatrician. The nurse at the dr's office yesterday actually told me she didn't know how to use the thermometer -- I had to show her and THEN while measuring LO's head she said "Have you ever gone to a pediatrician?  I always wonder how they measure baby's. I never feel like I'm doing it right".....yeah. Time for new Dr!

Re: No length increase

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've never thought the length measurements were that accurate anyway. :)

  • Also - 28 inches seems really long for a 4 month old! Maybe that measurement was off.

  • I wouldn't worry! At DD's 4m appointment she was 26.75 inches. Four weeks later, they daid she was 26.25 inches. Lol. They re-measured and said she was 27, but obviously drawing lines on a piece of paper to measure a baby is not a perfect science.

  • Ditto PPs, my guess is the 4 month measurement was inaccurate.
Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • I would definitely bet the 4 month length was wrong. My DS #2 was 28 in at his 6 month visit and that is pretty long for 6 months.

At 4 months, 28 in would be completely off the growth chart!

  • Thanks for all of your comments. She is going to be a tall girl (I'm 5'10" and dad is 6'5"), but maybe 28 inches was a bit long at 4 months!! Thanks again, everyone!

This.  They messed up DD's 1 month measurements and made her way to long.  They didn't catch it until her 2 month visit where they thought she shrank.  I don't think the measurements are very accurate even when they try their best, let alone when they are busy and trying to get you in to see the doctor.
