Baby Names

26 days to go,still no name. Owen? Alexander?

Owen and Alexander are this week's 2 finalists... Last name is long. Big brother is Lukas. We're fine w/ Alex as a nn. I am Irish so a Celtic name like Owen makes some sense, although our last name is Swedish and Alexander probably technically "goes" better w/ that.... I am over-analyzing everything and nothing seems "perfect'!!

  • I prefer Owen with Lukas.  Lukas and Alex are a little too similar for me.

  • I honestly like both names. I think Owen Alexander would be a great name so still if you wanted then nn Alex you could use it.

  • I don't know if you call him Luke at all, but Owen and Luke Wilson are also famous actor brothers. Something to consider.

  • Owen. We are Irish too, and my kids names are Brady and Nolan. Nolan is pretty similar to Owen. GL in choosing!

  • Yes, he is called Luke at times and I expect that he will be more often as he grows up but who knows... I did actually think of Luke and Owen Wilson recently but for some reason it did not bother me (even though most things do!) I guess I just don't think of them a that famous of a pair, as say, naming my kids Brad and Angelina... kwim? But thanks for the feedback! I am SO torn.

  • I dislike Owen; it has a negative association for me.

    I REALLY like Alexander!

  • I really like Owen.  We almost chose it for DS#2.  I like Alexander as a mn better.  I think the point about Luke and Owen Wilson is relevent, but if it doesn't bother you than go for it.
  • I think they're both excellent choices, but I like Alexander better.  Alex and Luke have a nice ring to it, imo.

    Good luck!

  • I like them both but give a slight edge to Owen.  I also think Owen and Lukas is a better sib set.  Alex and Lukas is a little too similar in sound.

  • Our last name is Chinese, and believe me, my kids' names don't "go" with that.  If you were wanting to name them something a bit off the wall, I'd consider the last name.  If not...don't sweat it.  Sven or Oksana would be absurd with our LN, but no one would think a reasonably traditional name was odd at all.
