Question for those with organic mattresses and sheets

We purchased the Naturepedic organic mattress and Land of Nod organic sheets.  I am still waiting for the mattress to arrive so I am not sure of how "waterproof" the top portion is.  Did you purchase a mattress protector?  If so, which did you get?  We received the basic comfort ultimate crib sheet which has gotten great reviews. However, since it is not organic, I feel like it defeats the purpose of all the other crib items.  Am I overthinking this?

Re: Question for those with organic mattresses and sheets

  • We got a waterproof mattress protector, because we didn't think it made sense to do everything else organic, and not the protector.  There are a lot of options out there.  We got ours at BBB, but if you just Google "organic waterproof crib mattress cover" there are many to choose from at all different price ranges!

  • The convenience of the ultimate crib sheet won out for me. We have an organic mattress, which was a priority, organic sheets, which I felt less strongly about, and an organic mattress cover, which seemed important. But they're all impossible to get in and out so for 3 am sheet changings, I'm sticking with the ultimate crib sheet on top.

This is the most affordable organic waterproof crib pad that I found. You can get it with Amazon Prime shipping too. I was really impressed with the quality of it, even after the wash and dryer. I had initially purchased a conventional waterproof mattress pad and as I was putting it on the organic mattress, I realized how pointless the organic mattress would be if it was covered in a layer of plastic. Anyway, comparing both covers the organic mattress cover is so much better quality.

I just got the same one today in the mail after a ton of research! It washed very nicely,  is nice and soft, yet should still keep the mattress plenty protected. Plus the mattress is pretty waterproof as it is so I am not too worried. I also got organic sheets and the organic ultimate crib sheet.

  • Since we got the Naturpedic organic mattress, we got the mattress pad from the same company.  We figured since we just spent $300 on the mattress, what's another $59 for the cover. (actually, over $100 since we got two but still worth it imo!)

  • Thanks ladies!!

  • Personally, I think the Naturepedic mattress itself seems pretty darn waterproof. It feels like plastic. We're getting organic ultimate crib sheets to put over the nice, cute sheets that match the rest of the nursery. I don't want to deal with middle of the night sheet changes, so I figure what's the point of spending an extra $60 on a mattress protector when I have those ultimate sheets on top of everything anyway? Just my $.02.

  • Just an FYI, the organic ultimate crib sheet was recalled recently.  This recall does not apply to the non-organic sheet.
