How do you know how VBAC friendly a doctor is? Do you just ask the front office? Ask the doctor directly? I am starting my research now so that when I get pregnant (hopefully next year) I will already have my answers. Thanks in advance for your help!
Re: How do you know?
Yes, ask the doctor. Ask how many VBACs are attempted each year and how many are successful. They should be able to give you an approximate number off their head. Ask about any conditions they have on VBAC. If they say you have to go into labor on your own by 39 weeks, they aren't really VBAC friendly. If they give you to 41+ weeks, they are more friendly. Will they allow you to labor the way that you want (natural, w/o monitoring, whatever)? Will they induce, use pitocin, etc? Under what circumstances will they advise a RCS?
Answers to all these questions will help you know how VBAC friendly they are.
I also recommend contacting the hospital you will be delivering at and asking a lot of the same questions, particularly the stats on attempted and successful VBACs.
