Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What are we supposed to do?? Sleep question

Last night DS2 went to be at 7 like normal, and woke up at 1:30 so I fed him (he hasn't picked up on solids very well so I figured he might be hungry) then he was back up at 3 crying.  I really don't think he could be hungry, he wasn't wet, cold, etc.  So DH went in and walked and bounced him him, while he cried for like 30 minutes until he finally fell back asleep.

So what are we supposed to do in that situation?  I didn't want to nurse him again because I really don't think he was hungry, and he just cried and cried while DH held him, so basically it's like letting him CIO.  Should I have fed him, just let him CIO?

This isn't really abnormal for him.  He can run the gammut of STTN for 12 hrs to waking up like 6 times a night on any given night, regardless of what we do before we put him to bed.  It's so frustrating!  But he's the sweetest, easiest baby ever during the day...go figure!

Re: What are we supposed to do?? Sleep question

  • DD wakes up once or twice a night whining. I never feed her, she dropped her night feeding by 4 months. I don't pick her up either; she gets the paci and some shushing with my hand on her chest/belly then I walk out. Sometimes I have to do this twice but rarely more than that.

  • Crying in the arms of a loving caregiver is not CIO. I think what you did sounds good, if u find it isn't workingfor him or you, u can change it up. Maybe he was teething or gassy or??

  • It depends on your nightime parenting philosophy. In our house, the answer is that I would've nursed LO, but we nurse on cue all around the clock. At 6 months old, your baby could very well be hungry again, especially if he's in a growth spurt or he could want to nurse to ease teething pain, be comforted, etc. Here is info that I've found helpful: https://www.kellymom.com/parenting/sleep/sleep.htmlor

  • It could be a growth spurt, there is one around 6 months. It could also be teething. My 1st DDs sleep paterns changed often. My guess is things will change in a few weeks. Also, new milestones (crawling) can affect sleep patterns too.
