Contractions after having cervix checked?

Had my 37 week appt tuesday at 11 am, went back to work afterwards and just felt achy all afternoon, then as soon as i got in my car to go home i had a contraction, lasted over a min. and had contractions for about 3 hours....nothing timeable, nothing with any pattern to it, just take my breath away pain from my back around to my front, had my DH run a bath for me and sat in warm water for 30 min and they slowly went away! Now that its thursday and i havent had 1 contraction since im wishing i would have went for a walk instead of the bath!! lol Anyone else get wierd contractions/ painful contractions after getting your cervix checked?? I cant wait till tuesday to see what progress those made cause baby feels realllllly low with pressure everytime i move!!

Re: Contractions after having cervix checked?

  • Yeah, contractions after a cervical check is normal.  They are stimulating the area so it "riles" things up as my OB says. :)

Don't be too worried that you chose a bath over walking - they probably wouldn't have done much :/  And the bath sounds so much nicer! :)

  • My doctor won't even start checking my cervix until my 38 week appointment because of this-she said they cause contractions and sees no need to check any earlier.

  • I have been having 60-90 minutes of on and off contractions every day for about a week.  My doctor would say they probably are helping you make progress even though labor did not start right away.  Could have been from your cervical check or you might have had them anyway.
