Please please avoid canteloupe right now

They are having a big outbreak of Listeria in Canteloupe in several states right now.  Please be careful.

I heard about this on the news last night.  The latest death was in MD (where I live).

Canteloupe is DD's favorite.  She'll be sad.

I went to Jason's Deli when this story broke like two weeks ago and asked that no cantaloupe be included in my fruit side (after also asking if it was already mixed in with the other fruit) because of the listeria outbreak. The guy behind the counter thought I was crazy and said in a weird tone, "We take great precautions not to serve contaminated food." I said, "Okay, but I still don't want it..." and he just gave me a look.

Exactly. 

And I'm sure there are some people who just don't like cantaloupe and ask to not have it. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the listeria thing and he wouldn't have been weird about it.

When it was first posted, it was reported in Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas.  I'm in California, and I bought a fruit bowl from Costco the day before the story broke (naturally my luck!) but the bowl doesn't even say where the fruit is from.  GARBAGE!   I hate wasting money like that! Oh well...

My FIL grew cantaloupes for me this summer and I got my fill...don't think I could eat one now if I wanted to.

They served me some with my fruit side at lunch.  I asked them to take it back! So scary!
