Outside the US I am pretty sure it is pronounced Kah-lee-ope (rhymes with HOPE). In the US I have always heard Kuh-lie-oh-pee.
Im no expert in name etymology, but this doesn't make sense to me. Calliope is of Greek origin, similar to the name Penelope. The -ope in Penelope does not rhyme with hope. Therefore, I would assume that Calliope would follow suit. Also, I dig this name.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I couldn't name a kid this because of the musical instrument. The instrument is always Ca-LIE-oh-pee

Re: Calliope
I've only ever heard it pronounced this way when people were joking.
It is Cal-I-Oh-Pee, I believe.
DH LOVES this name.
In Greek (where the name originated) it's actually pronounced Kah-lee-OH-pee.

Yup! I adore this name and it all started with Calliope Torres on Gray's.
