We (you and me) condone the rape of children in this country. Now, while we are all outraged and venting here (on this site) how many of you have written a judge who rewarded a child rapist with a few years in jail. How many of you have written your criminal politician?s to demand stiffer sentences?
Do you realize that in Maryland (this country) the two crimes that are condoned and embraced by law enforcement are: crimes while driving a motor vehicle and under the influcence AND crimes against children.
You STILL have people who will want to give this predator counselling and no death penalty. These crimes cry out for the death penalty. They are that severe.
If the judge rewards this human wih less than life, they I expect ALL of you to be calling and faxing, writing and emailing him YOUR EXTREME ANGER!!!!!!! and your elected politicians as well. That is how you channel your anger; for change and for sentences that fit the crimes
Maybe not luxurious as they shouldn't be, but yes they make it a comfortable adult day care. With meals like tacos, turkey dinners, some even make their own apple sauce. As for being warm, an extra blanket isn't a difficult request.

I am not saying conditions are too harsh; I'm just saying they're not the bed and breakfast you say they are.
For the record, Tent City is not a typical prison. That's a county jail, and only houses people awaiting trial (i.e., not yet found guilty!) or people who have committed misdemeanors and felonies with sentences <1 year. Tent City is a paragon of inhumanity and has cost Maricopa County millions (billions?) of dollars in the frequent lawsuits brought by families of prisoners who were killed there due to the ridiculously poor conditions. Those conditions ARE too harsh. They are too dangerous even for the guards.
I know you're probably not advocating Tent City as the new model for American prisons, but I couldn't let that go.
I know you're probably not advocating Tent City as the new model for American prisons, but I couldn't let that go.
I'm not advocating anything. PP said that prisons are dandy because you get blankets and tacos. I'm showing her that prison is not all blankets and tacos.
I am sure you are aware that people confess to notorious crimes they didn't commit quite frequently and of course any one that does would be any prosecutions star witness.
wtf. did that somehow make sense when it was still in your head?
The argument that prisons are "comfortable" is ludicrous. I live in a town that houses a state pen for very violent offenders, where some criminals have been put to death. If you know even a little bit about prisons you wouldn't say that they're "adult daycare" https://www.justdetention.org/
my father went to prison for a short time when i was young. it wasn't the most hardcore prison and we used to visit him weekly. it was a federal prison in tx.
later he told us that he witnessed stabbings. they had warehoused guys in a large room because they'd run out of space, and in the middle of the night, one crazy guy attacked the people next to him with a weapon he'd hidden. my father believed at least one person had died.
in georgia, the guards beat a mentally ill man to death. these are not uncommon stories. anyone who compares prison to daycare is fooling themselves and failing their fellow citizens. the justice system isn't perfect. any one of us could wind up there some day.

We (you and me) condone the rape of children in this
country. What? Does this person understand the meaning of the word condone?
Now, while we are all outraged and venting here (on this site)
how many of you have written a judge who rewarded a child rapist with a
few years in jail. Is this a question or a statement?
How many of you have written your criminal
politician?s to demand stiffer sentences? What?
Do you realize that in Maryland (this country) the two crimes that

Actually, this is exactly why I'm against the death penalty. Who the eff are YOU to decide who should live and who should die? I certainly don't want the responsibility, I sure as hell don't trust a jury of my peers to decide, and I don't even want a judge being put in that position. At the heart of it, we're all human beings, and all on an equal playing field in that regard. It frightens me that the person who wrote this incoherent comment wants to campaign for more people to die.
This post is so long now that no one will probably read this BUT... I don't know details about the Troy Davis trial, but given the information about him being sentenced in 1987, and the witness recanting fairly recently.. instead of say 20 years ago, sounds like his family took that long to gather money to pay them off.... (joke) (maybe... you never know!) Anyways, yes, I think they could have post poned it to look into the claims... but if all those people were going to admit that they were lying, they should have done it earlier and not waited until it was time for his execution.
On the subject brought up about Jail/Prison... I live in TX and work in law enforcement. My brother works in a jail, and we have done several tours of the prisons around TX, (including the unit where death row inmates are currently housed and used to be executed). I think (depending on location) facilities are different, obviously not living in luxury, but what pp meant was that inmates are treated (again, in general) fairly well by the state and staff. In most cases they are in an air conditioned environment, they are fed well (in my brother's facility the staff eats what the inmates eat, so the cooks make pretty good food), they have pretty much immediate access to health care. So you literally have people that will straight up tell you that they came (got arrested) to jail because they had a tooth ache and needed to go to the dentist becuase it's all on the government's dime while they're in there. Don't get me wrong, obviously they have to deal with the things that are pretty much out of the staff's control like physical altercations with other inmates and the whole prison culture, and we could go all day about for/against the death penalty. In the end though, the older an inmate gets, the more expensive their health care gets for the government, and the more likely they are going to get paroled (if they're eligible) and some people just really don't need to be let back into society.

a potentially innocent man is dead. you are defending a system that should not have the capacity to err so hideously.
here's another one:
"Alone, terrified, in terrible pain and denied help, Ms. Pope gave birth
on the floor of her cell," her lawyers wrote. It was the sound of her
baby's cry that summoned the officer back a short while later.
would you like to tell me how great the prison health care system is again? are you seriously suggesting that it's okay to kill people rather than paying for their health care?
Re: Troy davis was executed
What does THIS have TO do WITH Troy Davis?
