Missouri Babies

baby shower question...

I am pregnant with my second son and my friend is pregnant with her third.  We are due only about a week apart, and she just told me that she is having a baby shower. is this a little weird? My son is going to be 2 1/2 by the time the baby comes and her kids will be 3 and 2. I thought once you have a baby, you get the one baby shower for your first baby, then thats it. anybody else have any thoughts?

Re: baby shower question...

  • I think it's usually just done for the first baby, unless there's a huge span between your kids and the assumption is you've gotten rid of all of your baby stuff. Some people have small get-togethers of very close friends for later babies but I think the typical etiquette is to save the big showers for first babies.

  • To each there I own I guess. I have seen diaper parties or clothing parties (when the second baby's gender is different from the first) for second babies though.
  • I have also heard of some women having a shower the second time around even if their kiddos are closer in age. Generally though, they are only for first child or if they are years apart. However, if someone is offering to throw a shower/sprinkle I am sure the guest of honor will not turn it down.

  • Depends on what is the norm for your social circle.

It is very common among my friends and family members to have a shower for subsequent children, especially if they are a different sex.
